Lately

I realize that I’ve been a bit incommunicado lately, both here and elsewhere. Frankly, it’s the result of not being stuck in an office for 8+ hours a day. I find my time on the internet, on blogs and LJs and message boards, has dropped off significantly. I’ve actually been doing more with my time, for the most part.
Which is not to say that I don’t care about those of you out there in the webiverse, but that I’m much more likely to talk to people through email or in person right now than via blogs. Including my own.
As to the promised India posts and pictures, I may put something short up in the near future, but I won’t put anything significant for two reasons. One is that I might see if I can sell an article based on the trip. And two, it was a very personal and profound trip for me, but with the exception of things that might make it to that article, it’s hard for me to articulate all of what it meant to me and how it was. I will try, though.
In the meantime I’m hard at work writing and living life and trying to get the next phase of things on track. I’m really looking forward to it.
Okay, enough for now. Talk to you all later…

To those who celebrate it, Happy Thanksgiving.
Since I will be ensconced at my parents’ house today, there may be more posting later.

Morning stories
Filed Under writing | Leave a Comment
I woke up this morning with a story in my head. This isn’t the first time that has happened, though I think this story actually has legs. The frustrating thing about such stories is that I started writing it in my sleep. I actually dreamt I was sitting in front of the computer constructing sentences and plotting the whole thing out. Some of that is inevitably lost. The good part is that I managed to hold onto several scenes and I can reconstitute them in some form or another.
I find it very exciting.

Changing the theme made the missing posts appear, so I guess it’s a theme issue. A shame, really, because I liked that theme.
Ah, well – time to start looking again…

For some reason, my first WFC post doesn’t show up on the main page, though you can see it on the sidebar and navigate to it. Weird. I have no idea why. There is one there if people missed it. It posted to LJ, though, so who knows.
After facing distraction yesterday, I managed today to get out for t a little while to a local coffee shop to write. It was good. I know it’s a cliche, but writing somewhere else does tend to focus me. I managed to make some progress on my latest story, one which has decided lately to give me some trouble.
The only problem is that my laptop battery isn’t really the best. I get maybe an hour out of it when it’s not plugged in. That’s not very good. And the coffee shop doesn’t have available outlets. I either need to invest in a secondary battery, or need to find another place to write.
My India report is still forthcoming. It’s just a lot to filter through. It was a very personal trip for me and finding a way to write that down has been difficult. But I’ll try. With pictures.
More to come later…

So that last post was meant to go up last night, but I forgot to hit Publish.
As promised, though, here are just a few pictures from the con – mostly of the Pirate Reading. Thanks to David and Eugene for taking those.

World Fantasy 2007

I’m not going to post a long trip report, but I will say that I got back from World Fantasy a little while ago and it was phenomenal. It was the best con I’ve been to. A big part of that is all the wonderful people that I got to meet and see and hang out with in Saratoga Springs. Another big part is that I got to see and hold the Shimmer Magazine Pirate Issue (with my story, “The Furies”) and I even participated in a group reading for the issue on Saturday. I was nervous, but I toughed it out and all in all I think it went very well. It was the first con I’ve been to of this kind where I felt I really belonged.
India posts will be forthcoming, but I just wanted to mention the con before. I may even post a few pictures.
