Two Podcasts
I just wanted to take a moment to mention two podasts that I’m proud of.
First, I narrated “The Metal Men of Mars” by Joe R. Lansdale for Wired.com. The story is the first in Under the Moons of Mars, edited by John Joseph Adams.
Second, my story, “The Last Gorgon”, which was published in Beneath Ceaseless Skies last month is now available as a podcast. If you haven’t had a chance to read it, maybe you’d prefer to listen to it?
I also have a few other narrations in the works which I’ll mention when they go live.

“Doors” is up at PodCastle
I found out this morning that my short story, “Doors”, which first appeared in GUD Issue 6, is now up, in podcast form, at PodCastle. This is now the second of my stories to appear there and I’m very happy to see it, and hear it, there. As much as I enjoy narrating for them, I enjoy having my stories up even more.
That being said, I have to say that I find it hard to listen to narrations of my stories. I have to listen to the narrations that I do – for editing purposes at the very least – but hearing someone else read my fiction produces a strange kind of dissonance. PodCastle always does a great job in selecting readers – this has nothing to do with that – I think it’s just hearing my own words which is the problem.
I am a little heartened, though, that this is something other people deal with. At a recent agency retreat I heard that other people have issues with it as well.
On the other side of the microphone, there are some other narration projects that I’m working on to hopefully announce soon.

More Writing (and other) News
I promise that this blog is not going to be me promoting my own stuff, but there were a few things I wanted to mention from the past month or so.
First of all, I mentioned this on Twitter, but my story, “Card Sharp”, received an Honorable Mention in the Year’s Best Science Fiction (28th edition) edited by Gardner Dozois. This makes “Card Sharp”, without a doubt, my most popular story to date.
In addition, The Way of the Wizard, the anthology that “Card Sharp” originally appeared in, was just nominated for a World Fantasy Award (along with editor John Joseph Adams). I was so happy to be a part of that anthology and I’m glad that John is being recognized for putting it together.
In other news, my review of Jim Butcher’s Ghost Story, the 13th and latest book in the popular Dresden Files, recently went up at Tor.com.
And my narration of “Songs for Dead Hearts” by Mandana Faridani, just went up at Pseudopod, the first time I’ve done a podcast for them.
I think that’s everything for now. Next up I have some writing from other people that I want to mention…

Tending the Mori Birds
I recently narrated another podcast for Podcastle – Tending the Mori Birds by Caroline M. Yoachim. This one’s a short one, but I enjoyed reading and narrating it quite a bit (despite dealing with an impending move and a persistent cough). Check it out if you get the chance.

Card Sharp Podcast
I’m behind in posting about this, but earlier this week, my story, “Card Sharp”, went up on Podcastle. I’ve narrated podcasts for Podcastle before, but this is the first time I’ve had a story of my own go up. The narration, by Wilson Fowlie, is excellent. I’m really pleased.
So far the reaction on the forums has been positive, so I’m pleased with that as well.
And, I can mention, that I’m working on a sequel…

On the other side of the Podcast
I just realized that I’ve been remiss in mentioning another bit of writing news. However, now that I’ve signed the contract I can reliably state that my story, “Card Sharp”, from The Way of the Wizard anthology, is going to be narrated at Podcastle. I’ve done several narrations for the site before, but this will be the first of my own stories to receive that treatment. I’m looking forward to hearing it.
I’ll update when it goes live (I assume) later this year.

The Narcomancer up at Podcastle
My reading of “The Narcomancer”, a very fine story from fellow Altered Fluid member, N. K. Jemisin, is currently up for your listening pleasure (hopefully) at Podcastle.
This one’s what they call a “giant”, so it’s longer than the usual stories they feature.
As usual, it was a pleasure reading it, except for the times when my cats decided to make noise in the background and I had to go back and edit. I hope I got all of those.
